Good morning people. A quick update here today. Last night’s treadmill session was really great. It was the first time I have enjoyed running on a treadmill in forever. I am not sure if it was because I had some sort of energy/protein bar before hand or if it was because I was playing around with speeds but it was fun either way. You may have seen yesterday’s post where I laid out my plans for the workout but after a bit of discussion with my girlfriend, increasing the intervals to 2 minutes and some ad libbing on the night it turned in to this:
Now, whilst this was fun I am not entirely sure if it was the best thing I could be doing. The first half seemed relatively pleasant and it wasn’t until 12.5 kmph and up that I started to feel my heart really pump. I think next time it would be a good idea to start my intervals at a much higher speed, maybe 13 kmph and to increase in 0.2 increments. That way I spend a lot more time, running at a much higher speed. It would make the workout more beneficial in the same amount of time.
Either way though, the workout felt good and it was a quick way to get the job done. I had an old school nineties trance playlist which is definitely the best music for treadmill running. There’s not much more inspiring than running to Sandstorm by Darude. It also meant I didn’t have to run in the rain.
Tonight I am back in the gym as I don’t want to do any unnecessary damage to my tattoo (which is really starting to itch by the way). I will be doing my first ever indoor cycling class. I am quite excited and a bit apprehensive as I am not sure if I will be able to keep up with the class. I have a good level of fitness but I still find cycling up hill quite knackering and painful on the legs so I imagine 50 minutes of sprints and hill climbs will be pretty exhausting. It will be good for my overall fitness and is a nice change to be doing in a taper week before the big day on Sunday.
